What is Irene?

Named after the Greek goddess of peace, Irene is Remmen’s Intelligent Brake Control Software and is the brain of the NEMB system. The name symbolizes the safety and harmony of control that the NEMB System delivers.

With Irene, the enablement of electrically actuated braking systems has never been easier. It is the missing piece of a puzzle that is the fully electrified vehicle. Through harmonized operation of all electro-mechanical calipers, Irene will ensure the delivery of a safe and transformative braking system that will allow OEMs to improve vehicle dynamics control, safety response, and brake performance.

Irene oversees all NEMBs on the system and ensures all are functional. Diagnostics and error reporting is issued to the Vehicle Controls Unit.

Roadmap of Irene's Capabilities

IRENE 1.0

The first released version, Irene 1.0, will be an Automotive Safety Integrity Level “D” compliant software capable of modeling and controlling electro-mechanical braking systems of various types. Using minimal sensors, the system ensures precise brake torque generation through advanced algorithms.

IRENE 1.5

The next step in the evolution of Irene will extending Deep Learning principles for more advanced capabilities in controlling and diagnosing electro-mechanical brake systems, and supplementing vehicle dynamic controls with critical feedback.

IRENE 2.0

Further use of Artificial Intelligence in brake control will provide Irene with a set of eyes to predict vehicle dynamic responses using data collected and shared amongst the vehicle’s systems.  Enhance vehicle safety at the digital level.

Beyond IRENE

Future releases of Irene will provide a vehicle-wide safety net. Brake control and dynamic controls integration with the help of Artificial Intelligence tools will provide seamless vehicle operation in all conditions.
